The new feminine fragrance Tom Ford Velvet Orchid by designer Tom Ford is considered a successor to the brand’s most iconic scent, Black Orchid, launched in 2006. Introduced in 2014, Velvet Orchid inherits the legacy of boldness and seduction.

The scent opens with notes of bergamot, mandarin orange, and sweet honey, accompanied by Succan (a purified rum extract). The heart of this creation—crafted from "floral notes that feel remarkably real"—is the signature, timeless Tom Ford accord. It’s an imaginative harmony of precious black orchid, blended with the rich scent of velvet orchid (which gives the fragrance its name), intense Turkish rose, jasmine, and a unique wild purple orchid found along the southern coast of Brazil. Thomas Carlyle Ford, known today as Tom Ford, is an American fashion designer and film director. Initially trained as an architect at Parsons School of Design, Ford interned at Chloé in Paris, where he developed a passion for the fashion industry.

Although he started in architecture, Ford leveraged his personal charisma and transitioned into fashion. His first role was with American designer Cathy Hardwick, followed by a position at Perry Ellis. Seeking bigger opportunities, he moved to Europe. At the time, Gucci was struggling, and Ford joined its women's ready-to-wear division in 1990. He eventually became Creative Director in 1992 and played a pivotal role in Gucci’s transformation. When Ford joined, Gucci was on the brink of collapse. By the time he left in 2004, the company’s value had more than doubled. During his tenure, Gucci also acquired Yves Saint Laurent.
